So I am in the midst of a maintenance day since the weather is conspiring against me, and decided to service my pedals as well. M785s that I got last year, and they have served me well, but have a little wiggle to them. I pulled them apart, degreased and repacked til fresh grease was coming out, and the left side still has a bit of wiggle in it.

Ideas? The cartridges were both still secure so I didn't bother taking them off the spindle. Is it possible that the cartridge needs replaced?

As I recall, you can adjust the cartridge.
There's a vid on the tube of somebody doing it.

wasnt able to find one that was clear or intelligently done. seemed to be, though, that the races can be tightened up. might try that, but not today. tired of wrenching lol.

The vid I saw, was sure not intelligently done, but it showed what you can expect to find in there, and from there I take your own intelligence can take over. ;-)

In case you got a cam, do the world a favor, and film your adjustment.
Loads of those pedals out there, and no respectable service vids AFAIK.

I wish. Sadly I couldn't do much netter than the bad ones already out there, all I have is my phone and tablet. Top it off with the fact I'm kind of a hack, and I wouldnt be able to put something together that hasnt already been done equally badly.

Now Marp, on the other hand...he has skills, and has already proven to be adept at DIY.

(wink wink nudge nudge)

Im on my phone so..... I had a detailed write up on spds but the nut that holds everything on the back end needs to be snug. Also the ball bearings maybe pitted or worm because as of lately xt and xtr seals have worn out killing the longevity of all the internals. My xtrs seazed after one year, seals worn out twice, ball bearings replaced twice. Ill do some google fu later for more imformation. Cough.....get those time atac I have....cough...
