Central European time, so I'm like 8-9 hours ahead of you.
Current time is almost 2AM.

Magura :)

Looks like I am about done with dirt riding for the year. I'm bringing the Green Machine out of hibernation. It's time to become a roadie again (from the next few weeks). She's now got a 42 tooth chain ring up front. Down from a 46 tooth.

Hello, old friend...

Why did you loose 4 teeth in the ring?
This would be the time of year where you're in the best shape, no?

As you are well aware, our hills and mountains are quite steep and continuous. Same goes for our roads. This is most definitely not "flat lander" country. I struggled with the 46 tooth. It was a bit much for me on sustained road climbs. My drivetrain is a 1X10 so I don't have a smaller ring to drop down into. The 42 tooth makes more sense for around here for a 1X drivetrain.

I've actually not been feeling well this year and I'm riding as much as I did the past few years so I am not out of shape. I am wearing a heart rate monitor for the next few weeks so I cannot sweat much. Mountain biking is much harder (and I sweat a lot) than road biking and I want to keep rolling, so I got the Green Machine out for duty until the end of the year. :D

True, I keep forgetting that you're a 1X road guy.
46T is a bit on the high side, if that's all you've got.

Magura :)

Welp, first ride on the road monster is complete. Just a little over 10 miles and it was a bit rough for the first few minutes but after that, I WAS GOOOOONE! Passing up fellow roadies like they were standing still, lol.

I've got flats on my "town" bike, as well, it really doesn't matter, in my case. I get up the hills, eventually.
We have some decent size hills here along the coast.

I'm chipping away at the remaining miles needed to reach 1600 for the year. I had a wonderful mentally relaxing road ride today under crystal clear blue skies and comfy temps.

31.02 miles
1929' gain
1787 calories

Just 27 miles to go to reach my goal for the year! :D

I'm a 1400-1600 mile rider, annually. This year might be a record for me, not sure. That's all the abuse my body can handle and I'd get bored if I rode much more than that anyway..... unless of course, I was financially secured/retired/free to roam the globe... which I am not...

I haven't ridden much more than that this year neither.
Riding in Denmark sucks! When we're in Germany or Austria, we make as many miles, as we do in Denmark, but in 10% of the time.
Both Austria and Germany has well maintained bike facilities, which is much in contrast to what it's like in Denmark.
To ride the Danish bike paths, a MTB is the preferred choice.
Riding the countryside roads is made rather unpleasant, by dingbat roadies that thinks they own the road, refusing to pull over and so forth, so we're all being treated like those idiots, just for riding a road bike here.

Magura :)

I've ridden a similar distance annually, right right up to 2019, but this year, no dice.

in general though, I tend to focus more on the day-to-day continuity of my rides, with a ride normally defined as 1 hour of continuous pedaling.
That's the ticket.....for me, anyway.

I wish! We are expecting our first substantial rainstorm of the season to arrive tonight. It's supposed to stay wet for 24 hours once it gets started.

Well, that leaves you 72 hours for 16 miles, that's doable.
