Been a bad couple of weeks. First my old friend Lemmy, now one of the biggest influences on my younger years, David Bowie. I was lucky to have seen the old Spiders lineup in concert in the UK, and that made a big impression. I am just waiting for my wife to go to work and I'm gonna turn up Starman very loud... just to start...

Saw the Spiders from Mars too. Loved his character in Labyrinth. This is the bad part about getting old.

That was very surprising news to wake up to this morning, made for an unsettled start to the week. David Bowie was one of my earlier music interests way way back when I was first gaining an appreciation for music as a scrawny pimple faced teenager. I've always liked his style.

Gone far too soon, RIP David Bowie...

Sad indeed. I haven't really followed his more recent work, but about to listen to Blackstar on Spotify right now.

I always loved his portrayal of Pontius Pilate in the The Last Temptation of Christ

In today's NYT, there were no fewer than 5 or 6 full-length articles about him, and about his influence on our culture and society.
And here I am, not having paid attention to music all that much.

I think I really missed out on something.

I just saw this. There does seem to be an unsettling wave of folks passing.

I also dig Jefferson Airplane.

+3 That's some rich content there bob! I always like to see/listen to the real early stuff of the '60s and '70s musicians.

I picked back up on it after ripping the 3-disc "Sound+Vision" set. As soon as I heard it I flashed back to Jr High and remembered my buddy who was into Bowie at the time. He was the first of us to get past all the makeup and weirdness, TBH. :D

Great track VW... shows the rock roots of especially Mick Ronson. He's a local to where I used to live in the UK... they are very proud of him still!
I remember buying the first release of Space Oddity in '69 and being blown away. The B side was pretty trippy too if I remember: Wild Eyed Boy from Free Cloud, and it was all very topical at the time 'cos Apollo 11 was just about to land on the moon.

One of the lesser known members of Jefferson who was replaced by Grace Slick actually died the same day.

Mick Ronson was a bona-fide axeman.

Was a big fan of his, starting in High School, in the early 70's. I did a few load in's/load out's with him and spent time back stage talking about the old days and music. He was a big person, but very soft spoken. Drove a big old 70's red Cadillac, probably the only car that he could fit him. I will miss him and his music.

Yeah, this was bad news. I really liked George Kennedy, be it as a comedian or a dramatic actor. Heck I even liked him in those cheesy Airport movies.
