We're getting the leaf stripping winds and rain now. Still a lot of green with dry drops coating the ground.

Slick wet leaves and roots. Body English practice for snow

Ray, so far. Tonight they're predicting howling offshores, 45mph +. Got my trailer loaded with my tools (to rebuild), my chain saws (for safety) and my bikes. If we get passed this, they're predicting rain on Wednesday. Everyone I know knows someone who lost their home. It's crazy.

Norton, I'm so praying for you and yours. Best of luck buddy, hope all turns out for the positive. I've been there and I know the fear and the feeling of doom. All you can do is grab the important stuff and go. The most important thing is to get out of there.

It's effing crazy, man. Again, good on you for dealing with it!

I find one of the bet resources for keeping up with the latest is, perhaps ironically, the NorCal forum on eb.

DJ, Ray.....thanks for your thoughts. I talked to my neighbors this morning and we are all preparing to evacuate. The weird thing is I've been waiting for this to happen for 40 years.

Climbed and then descended one of my local favorites, Monroe Truck Trail. Cool this morning, perfect temps for the 6+ mile climb. Busy on the trail, several groups of riders coming up as I was heading back down.

We didn't get the winds last night. Clear and calm here. It's kinda wait and see at this point.

Please keep us informed down here, Norton. Your posts really make the extent and the state of destruction comprehensible to me.

And let us know about the best place to send money for the disaster relief. I noticed nothing but crickets coming out of the WH and Washington. After all CA has done for the eastern, middle, and south in this country, I would not count on federal aid for CA.

I'm scraping up as much as I can afford, and I know the other folks here will do the same.

Ray, thanks for your thoughts. At this time the weather is in our favor. We may get some rain mid week, which will be a huge benefit for containing the fires. Talking with my neighbors we all feel so lucky not to be effected by the fires. Due to the sudden oak death die off here, we were saying that we should have gotten the fire, not Santa Rosa. Our hill sides are covered with thousands of dying and dead tan oaks. I lost 50 on my property alone. The fuel load here is extremely high. We have been clearing and removing as much as we can, however, a tan oak that looks healthy one day is dead the next day. I will say PG&E has been very active keeping the power lines clear, due to the fact that dead tan oaks fall over really easy as the wood rots quickly. We are constantly clearing tan oaks off our trails. But we all all affected by this, as we all know so many friends and family who lost their homes or had to evacuate. My friend owns a camp ground in Duncans Mills who open it up to evacuees.

Here is a link to donate. As you can see 100% of donations will go directly to the fire victims. Go Fund Me charges 8% and Red Cross has high overhead costs.

Sounds like things may be coming to close in your area norton55.

I did a quick half hour roadie ride this morning. 9.27 miles, 318' up. The scenery at the Rose Bowl was spectacular.

I think I spoke too soon. Winds have shifted straight off shore, maybe 1/3 mile visibility. The smoke is so thick you can taste it. I just heard a fire broke out on the coast a few minutes ago, after I unloaded my trailer and put everything away. :?

We are out of woods in terms of the fires. Just to give you all a sense of our location, here is a map. I'm closer to Jenner.

It's good to hear from you, Norton. I'm recommending that fund you cited to all of my wealthy and not-so-wealthy neighbors here in Point Loma.

Your son's connections, Norton, are even awesomer.
After all. a local politico, seeking to burn ALL of his bridges, once stated that Point Loma had "more rightwing extremist Republicans, than there's germs on a dirty kleenex". A nice turn of phrase, no?

Norton, good to hear you are out of the woods, so to speak, regarding the fires. And I can think of worse places to spend time than the Hotel Valencia in La Jolla. Set aside the cliffs of La Jolla over looking the ocean. All my travels past that place I always wanted to book a weekend there, even though I was local to SD at the time. It would still feel like an exotic mini vacation.

Yeah I agree. My problem is the lengthy drive to its location set out in the middle of nowhere. And then timing of driving there and her landing time was miscalculated by an hour. I'm sure you know if you plan on picking up curbside they have no place to hang and wait. The mile long circle that encompasses the area of pickup the cops watch and move you along if you pull along the shoulder. Even though everybody does it. This trip I sat on the shoulder for an hour along with 20 other vehicles at any given time luckily without being pushed along to move. But still it was my fault for not timing the pickup correctly. Annoyed at it being a midnight pickup with an hour and a half drive back home I felt the need to vent. ;)

DJ, the Denver airport must have “cell phone” parking for those people waiting for arrivals? Thats a tough hour to wait for a delayed flight though, way to hang in there.
