Many of the self defense killings of mountain lions sound fishy to me. A couple years ago a bowhunter on Mt. Laguna claimed to have killed a cat in self defense, but when F&G examined the arrow wound , it's entry was from the back. Not self defense if the critter was moving away from him. He went from bowhunting hero to jailbird in the time of a few days.

Well, looks like the weather folks were slightly off. My neighbors above 900' got snow. I'm at 400'.

We've got a dusting here at about 3500' on Mt Lukens. Nothing visible across the valley on the Verdugos but it's early and it's my understanding that the level will continue to drop as the day progresses. Cold out? YES, but I'm still in shorts and t-shirt.

Update: I was right in my suffocation theory. The latest on this story here. I should just walk into the hospital and interview him myself.

https://www.npr.org/2019/02/05/691528804/colorado-runner-kills-mountain-lion-in-self-defense

Not much more info. other than strangulation and the cat weighed 80lbs. a juvenile.

In 20 years when he’s telling his grandchildren he killed a mountain lion with his bare hands, I wonder if the cat will still weigh 80lbs. :laughing-rolling:

Update: The latest, not much more news but a much better written description of what is known. A necropsy this morning determined suffocation.

I'm still having a hard time with this...

A magician pulls a rabbit out of his hat.

A mathematician solves an age old problem.

A brain surgeon saves a child's life.

A chemist finds a cure for a disease.

And, a runner kills a mountain lion with his bare hands.

Whatever,

But wait there’s more:

https://www.cnn.com/2019/02/05/us/color ... index.html

Less than a year old. It was a mountain lion adolescent just past being a cub at less than 80lbs.

The victim choked him to death as I stated was my guess from the get go. Also, did I not say it was a young male mountain lion? Don’t doubt what I say when it comes to nature. Otherwise doubt some but very little, ;)

^

But wait, there’s more:
It was a face to face encounter, the latest finally details it. He used a rock first and then strangled it in a last ditch effort to live. The cat was relentless and kept coming at him.

Snowing big time in my hood. A dusting over night and it stopped them about 2 hours ago it started coming down in huge flakes. 50’ visability and already 3” 4” accumulation.

Lol ^

And just for size reference on what an 80lb. Mountain Lion looks like. I’d say this victim may have been Chuck Norris after all.

... Beating on a dead cougar cub
DJ,
No less dangerous than a Vail, CO cougar.
More than 80#, they too leave scratches,
deep scars, and can financially wreck your balls.
"Is that your Porsche sweetie?"
Turn around, I heard something..

Well, that explains the pics of the disemboweled big Rottweiler I saw that was attributed to a 70 lb. female cat...........

Happy Belated Birthday, Flyin' W!

I think there was a mountain lion attack hoax here in Cali a few years back. Now, we have a Colorado mountain lion attack hoax.

The blue skies are back for a few days! Even a little bit of snow on the mountain tops.

It will be here again this weekend but just light rain. We are expecting a ripper to arrive next week on Thursday and the forecasters are using a one word term to describe it: "flooding". :o
