Shockingly, the AQI dropped down to 50+ here yesterday afternoon. That was my green light to jump aboard the FEX. It was hotter than Hades at 93 degrees, but that wasn't going to stop me. I did a short 10 mile ride through Cherry and loved every moment. The place was slammed with riders, presumably because our National Forests are closed at this time due to fires and fire danger.

I'm digging my new X01 cranks set! Every mountain bike I've ever owned had 175mm cranks. I bought the X01 cranks in 170mm to allow for more clearance over rocks. The shorter throws and faster cadence make the FEX pedal almost like a road bike. I found myself spinning out in my usual gears for given speeds/grades, so I started dropping into a harder gear in some situations. The numbness sensation of the carbon fiber is similar to what you feel in your hands with a carbon fiber handlebar. She pedals lighter and it's nice! I just wonder if the lack of leverage will tire me out on sustained climbs. I did not realize that leverage plays a part in gearing.

Yes, I saw that one the news. Brutal. Is the NAPA fire close to your location?

On the Santa Rosa side. Lot's of the trials I have posted on here have been burned. :x

Bummer. :(

It's my understanding that we lost all of the trails on the Dark Side of Mt Wilson as well as some of the trails on the Northern zone of Chantry Flats. Also, some of Silver Moccasin got fried. Luckily, Strawberry Peak was spared.

Hawg, what a year. I'm ready to write this year off and start fresh for 2021.

Yes, horrible nightmare. Covid, multiple wildfires/major smoke, loss of work accounts, angry fed-up people all over the place, rough times for our marriage, and now, one of my good riding buddies just had a heart attack after a big ride.

Fires suck.
Yesterday was just clear enough for a ride and I had the day off. And off I went. Hit Bobcat, felt great to hit some dirt again. A clear day at 80°. I woke up today to skies full of smoke again.

There’s two fires that are causing smoke issues in my area.

I hope those of you who are dealing with the fires are safe. Not many recent updates.
I got out for my usual ride. Trying to guide the folks new to MTB when I come across them, but most don't care about much more than where they are on the trail.
Maybe they will come around if they stay with it.

Still struggling through smoke filled skies in The Rockies.

Not much riding lately. Too smoky. But I got out before sunrise for a quickie through Cherry Canyon with a couple buds this morning. Beautiful sunrise.

Yeah, can't beat the scenery it causes.
It also looks beautiful on satelite photos, with the smoke and the fires.

Not a complaint. Just an observation. We had nasty sky’s last week from the fires. NE we’re getting the last sunny sky days of the year before the gray sky season. West coast haze is diminishing that.

Beats burning any day. Hate it for you guys

I've heard of reports stating that some East Coasters have actually smelled our West Coast smoke at times. I've had all I need of this for the next 20 years, thank you.

I guess that could be possible, given the amount of smoke emitted.
Sometimes dust from Sahara falls in Denmark. That's about the same distance.

I've been able to smell the smoke a couple of nights here in Indiana. The news cams from the top of a building in Indianapolis show it as haze in the distance when conditions are right. Usually clear of it.

Rode one of the odd trail sections today. Went from an easy trail to a difficult trail. BKXC rode the more difficult trails in a recent viseo if you watch his youtube. Said it reminded him of the BC Bike Race, but is likely easier.
The leaves are getting ready to change, will be a week or so for full colors.

That's fascinating!
One would think it was too diluted to be visible, when it has traveled for some 5000km

As thick as it is in the sky here at times I believe the scent could get noticed. I have a poor sense of smell. My wife has complained about the smell
