RE: Headset issue

Looks like there is some incompatibility issues between bearing models and cup models even from the same size (in this case ZS44 28.6) so CC sending and entire upper HS assembly at a discounted price. Sweeeet!!

SnakeCharmer, was the guy in front of you with the red left arm on a plus bike?

Nobody in the group was rolling on plus tires but most had wide 2.5s. One of the more talented guys was rolling on a fully rigid Jones and he was cleaning all but the gnarliest tech sections! :o

Musta been the camera, those tires looked yuge! I like big tires and I can not lie.

I saw the Jones bike with the H bar, the one with the rear view mirror, lol.

I just went back to see, the huge bearded H bar rider. Never mind Hawg about my question above. I thought maybe Aqua was along with you on his Jones.

You guys have to keep in mind that these cameras supply an hourglass image, things are stretched out.

That said, the Jones may have been a fat tire bike but if it was, I didn't notice and that is unusual because I pay attention to details.

Another clue is that his bike had QR front and rear. I doubt a Plus Jones would be set up like that???

And lastly It does not say "PLUS" on the top tube of the frame like all the Jones Plus models have...

Discussion: CASE CLOSED :D

The case will be closed when I say it is.

I never questioned it being plus sized. I questioned if it was Aqua with you. I then went back and watched the vid again and confirmed it wasn't.

I wasn't talking to you but since you demand attention, here is my answer:

I've never met, seen, or ridden with him, so, therefore, it, was, not, "Aqua". I assume that "Aqua(holic)" is not his birth name (you do not have to answer that).

The Jones rider's name is Carson.

You definitely nailed that "new product roll out" video feel. Love it!

I went on a big ride yesterday. It feathered the most climbing I have ever done (I believe?). I was invited to attend a group ride in Ojai so I jumped on board. I had heard about the riding there and I wanted to see what it was all about. The climb up was on an XC trail. Up, up, and more up we went and when all the grinding was done, my Garmin unit said 4002' elevation gain and 15.78 miles. It was quite warm so I suffered a bit with all that climbing, even resorted to pushing my bike at times.

The descent was some fire-roading but mostly ST and the lower we got, the more techy it got. The last 1-2 miles of the ST was rock garden hopping. A few spots were way out of my league and I would honestly say out of the league of 90% of all AM riders. Two of the guys in our group had that skill to clean the truly hairy sections, and one of them did. My camera malfunctioned so I wasn't able to record him cleaning one spot in particular but wow, was it impressive. It also didn't record some of the other techy stuff I was able to roll through.

Nice riding Hawg. Or should I say Snakecharmer? It definitely looked like a warm day. And all that climbing, I'm tired just reading about it.

Not sure if you can see all that well on this one, but I just swapped out the bright yellow Crossmaxes I had on this for some Arch rims I got for a great price on Ebay. Like you Net, rock slamming is common practice in the Old Pueblo, and after several rides they are pristine still. the Ardents I have on there right now just onto those rims like snake down a gopher hole.
I had good results from the C'maxes on my old bike, but the yellow ones did not match my expectations at all.

I'm paying attention to people's wheel choices these days.

Hawg, use this for your chain stay: http://www.homedepot.com/p/3M-3-4-in-x- ... /202195401

It's thicker than regular electrical tape, and it sticks to itself. I could have done a better job if I went a little slower. I still have enough left over to do it two more times, so I'll do a better job next time. You could probably do two wraps for more protection.

After some consideration, I am not so sure that this stuff is going to work for the TJ as a wrap. The crank clearance from the stays is mighty close, only 6mm (and that includes using a spacer on each side of the BB bearing). XTR cranks are narrow (compared to XT) but they offer a better chainline and they are lighter in weight.... the pros and cons of building a bike up custom... I may try running the stuff you suggested here along the top of the chain stay (where the chain will actually make contact) and then wrapping it with electrical tape.

I'd try the Temflex first and see how it does. It's not that thick, not like those old steering wheel wraps, remember those? I'd say it's twice as thick as regular, maybe a bit more.

Have you come up with a name other than TJ yet?

I just use an old tube and finish the wrap with electrical tape.

Korn, I like "TJ" because it's simple. Perhaps you should ask me what "TJ" stands for though,... :D

N55, I bet the clearance of your cranks to the chain stay is better than mine, it was at least twice what it is now on my XC HT frame. I too used to use an old tube cut to fit. The Timberjack frame is a Plus tire frame so the rear triangle is WIDE.

Nothing like spending big bucks on a frame and throwing a cheap ass looking protector on it.

What Korn is talking about is not bad looking and works great and has been around for 20 years or so. The inner tube trick works great as well.

I lucked out years ago and happened upon a bike shop that was going out of business. There used to be a company called "The Intense" who made tough plastic padded sticky back protectors with a carbon fiber look to them. This company had no association with the Intense bike company. Allthough Intense bicycles used these protectors on their race bikes and pro builds. This shop had a couple left on close out so I snagged them. I'm on my second and last one and can't get another. I think it fits right in with the look of the bike though.

Early on I assumed it was Intense Cycles affiliated, especially because Intense Cycles used them. I later found out it was a completely seperate company.

Yeah, looks like they accidentally (?) plagiarized the font, although probably with good intents.
