I plan on attending a bike-camping ride near the end of October. A few guys are going to meet in Garland and ride 75mi (back roads) to Cooper Lake State Park Sulphur Unit and camp for the night. Riding back to Garland the next day.

I don't want to spend much (if any) cash to prep for the trip. Last thing I want to do is drop $200 on equipment and then decide I'm not going again. So, I rented a screened shelter for the night. :)

Those who want to can tent/hammock camp and I'll sleep in the shelter. Anyone who wants to join in is welcome to share the space. I'm sure we could keep the bikes in there, also.

I already have a 4lb sleeping bag and a mat that I'll strap to one side of my rack. The other side I'll use one of my commuting panniers to hold a days worth of food, cooking stuff, and a change of clothes.

Ought to be a fun trip!

Yeah, it's a Friday/Saturday trip...

I found out the planner is using the DART rail to travel from NRH (I think) to Garland. If we return on a Sunday the DART rail is closed and that'll add some significant pedaling mileage...

I am tentatively planning on going. But I don't want to ride my road bike. So I need to figure out my gearing. Maybe 46/20?

Lol, I can't help you there. I'm bringing the 3x7.

It will not be a race. I may be the slowest of the pack. ;)

The bike-camping ride coordinator changed the scheduled trip weekend. Not able to attend that weekend... C'est la vie...

A very smart friend suggested I make the trip anyway (on the previously planned days). It was one of those "duh!" moments. :)

So, the 24th and 25th it is. Anyone wanting to come along can feel free to join. ;)

Sounds like a really really smart guy. I am still planning on going. Do you know if there are trees there to strap a hammock to?
