In the final stages of planning for an overnight bikepacking trip from Dallas (Plano) to Cooper Lake.

Looks like it'll be about 75 miles each way with an overnight camp. Paul_C and one other person will be going along on the trip.

I'm using BikeRouteToaster to find the best route out and back. After much fiddling with it, I think I have (close) to the final version.

Made my food list tonight. Started laying everything out on the workbench.

This weekend I plan on checking my wheelset to ensure it's staying true.

If all goes well, I'll pack up the bike mid-week and take it on a 8-10 mile shakedown to ensure everything is situated correctly.

I'm super excited about this and I'll be going on the trip even if both other guys bug out on me. ;)

Nothing short of a Tornado warning will keep me from hitting the pavement that morning.

Weather forecast says high of 78* on the ride out and low of 55* on the overnight. And, high of 78* for the return. *giggle*

Thanks, all!

SSLS, it'd be great to have you along. Maybe we can all plan a spring trip somewhere. By that time I'll have the cash for some backpackable shelter. ;)

All packed up for the shakedown ride tomorrow.

Panniers are mostly empty. Change of clothes and spares (tube & tire) in one, cook stuff (fuel, burner attachment, cooking cup), and misc. in the other. Took it around the block today and it felt good. :)

...surely, you have a little flask of whiskey tucked away in there?

Please take pics of your camp sites and other adventuring scenes along the way. :D

No whiskey. I do have a flask and I did think about it. Still time to change my mind. ;)

Forecast is warmer than expected with a high of 86* Friday, low of 65*, and a high of 91* (!!!) on Saturday. I repacked and removed some heaver clothing.

I probably still over-packed a bit. Food is the big question. I probably have too much; but, I'm just not sure how much to bring. This will be a great way for me to figure out just how little I need to bring next time.

It's like Christmas Eve. I can't wait to get up tomorrow and get going. :D

73 miles... Paul_C and I arrived! One flat tire, one fire ant attack, one wrong turn, and twice chased by a dog. :)

Last 10 miles was a beating.

Will post pics after I return. Gonna sit on my ass the rest of the evening.

:D

Could you list the cities you've set as goals?
For the not-so-good-at-American-geography, that would make it way easier to follow you guys.

Have fun

Magura :)

Sure. We're reversing the route today and will be traveling through the following cities and towns (in order).

Cooper Lake State Park - South Sulphur Unit
Commerce
Greenville
Caddo Mills
Josephine
Nevada
Lavon
Wylie
Murphy
Plano

Keep in mind that some of the towns have a population less than 2k and no stores (that we saw on the route). ;)

18.1 miles in on the return. Headwind is brutal. Had to mace a dog. Just in his general direction... He stopped in his tracks...

Not doing so well.

My right knee is killing me. Low gear and spinning to survive. Just bought some Tylenol.

May have to call in a support vehicle. ;)

No beer for me until the Tylenol wears off. :(

Doing better now. Tylenol pushed me over the edge. I think I'll make it.

I think Paul is hurtin', though...

Well, you're close to half way, no?
Beer an Tylenol could be interesting though. :D

It's pretty cool that you've almost made it realtime.
I for one find it fun to follow your trip.

Like 6 miles to go.
This is the time where you get a 6' stick, mount it on the bars pointing forward, tie a bottle of your favorite brew to the other end, and hope it will make you do the last few minutes. ;)
