My first time to be able to post about a beer that I actually like...

Image

Kona Brewing Company's Big Wave Golden Ale. I picked up a bottle to try on a whim at home and decided that it is the first beer that I like well enough to actually buy again.... tonight it was great with fish and chips from Coconut's Fish Cafe.

Of course.... eating at Coconut's while watching the surf videos really just made me miss the views from the Kihei shore....

It is one of only two restaurants that I actually crave. We originally found it in Kihei, HI on our first trip to Maui. During our second trip to Maui, the owner was in the restaurant discussing plans to open franchises in Texas. Naturally we hit up a conversation with the owner/exec chef, who is SUPER cool, and he told us about opening up in the Dallas area. On our return trips to Maui, 2 with my wife and 1 with my mom, we grab a pizza at the Flatbread Company in Paia and just about every other meal is spent at Coconut's which has an awesome view of Haleakala out its front windows.

Yes. It is food heaven. They fish tacos are AMAZING but everything on the menu is great too. :) Well worth the 35 mile drive. :D

My local grocery store has a nicely stocked beer section and a variety of singles where you can build your own 6-pack for $9.99. I was walking by and noticed they had Lakewood Temptress among the singles. One of my favorite beers and they usually go for $10.50 for a four-pack. I grabbed the last six they had in the singles area and strutted to the checkout like a king. Already drank one.

After a ride yesterday (ride report forthcoming), a buddy and I stopped for lunch and I had a Nine Band Cactus Cat with my meal. Nine Band is a local (Allen, TX) brewery and I've had a couple of their beers and thought they were really good. The Cactus Cat (Kolsch) will be added to that list. :) It was a really light beer which is not something I normally enjoy. It was perfect for an afternoon "after the ride" refreshment.
