The high Uinta's plague is horse packers.
Worse yet are the Boy Scout groups who use horses to carry their gear.

In the late 80's before bikes were banned, we ran into such a group and handed the scout leader all the candy wrappers we had collected on the mostly hike a bike climb.
This had little impact. They were more concerned of us using "their" land.

That "privileged" mindset seems to a common problem in a lot of area's. What a shame.

Used to encounter crap like that in the winter after it was frozen. Beat the shit out of me. No love for horses from this guy.

Virtually all Uinta trails are heavily used by horses. You just can't avoid them. The universal trail obliteration is unreal. The High Uintas - land of the 10 ft wide trails.

I'm wondering if Daylight savings should be done away with. My MacBook Pro totally freaked out last night as the time change occurred. The freaking machine froze up and then wouldn't reboot. I thought that a bunch of super valuable files (work stuff) where lost. Yes, yes I back my shit up on a Seagate but I'm forgetful and only do it every 2 or 3 weeks. I pretty much pulled an all nighter trying to get the stupid thing to come back to life. It finally did. I can't take it!! I've never had an opinion on DST but now I'm wondering if its really necessary.

It's 730am. My first day of my first spring break as a teacher. It is still dark. DST can suck it!

Old Mook spent all night fixing a glitch on his high tech Mac gadet. Meanwhile I've been watching the light on my VCR flashing 12:00 for two days now. Help!

Okay fellow Kitties, I've got one for y'all.
It's quite painful to openly discuss, yet I'm beyond sick of all the B.S.
We have a drug addict in our midst who due to her addiction (heroin, now opiods + booze) and it's associated behaviors of theft, lying, and manipulation has divided a once close small family.

The key player, and one I blame most is my sister. The mother, who has enabled her, daughter, and been in denial for nearly 10 years. She is now so toxic that anyone who questions her methods, or speaks out against her daughter is verbally attacked. It's relentless, and she has no idea how crazy she sounds, or has become. So, the enabler has become the abuser.

The child now 27 has been through (2) mandated rehabs, yet seeks no help to recover. She's now a convicted felon, with an OUI/DUI charge, 4 crashed cars, and 3 documented suicide attempts. Because of her arrests, she's unable to work in her field of study. No veterinary clinic will hire a junkie. Goodbye 529 tap fund. All of this, and never gone to a meeting of any kind for help. " Oh she's in recovery, and doing fine". ARRRRGH!

Of course there's more at stake, and as usual it involves $$$.
I truly wish no other Kitties ever experience the ongoing nightmare of an addict.
There is no way to have a rational discussion, even with a facilitator.
So, I'm within inches of taking legal actions, or just telling them all - adios.
Down side is, my elderly mother will move from her home, and into senior care to avoid the craziness.

Thanks for letting me vent, rant, and unload.
If anyone has any constructive input, I'm all ears.
Best, F_W

Wow Man, took courage to share that, and Wow, sorry to hear that. Sadly I know first hand what that can do to the best of families. Wish I could give you some advice that would fix it all. The only things I can say, from my experience,... Sounds like you know your sis isn't helping, and sadly many addicts finally turn around when they know they've been cut off and it's all on them. No one to play their head games on, and no one to bail them out leaves little option. As far as what your saying to your sis, and how she's handling the situation....sound so simple it's silly. Just tell her that since what she's been trying hasn't worked for like 10 years, maybe it's time to try something else. Maybe take that advice yourself. I know I tell myself that same thing often, not always easy to do. Because it goes against your instincts, which have been leading you to do the same things

Flyin_W, My thought are with you. It's so hard when families are torn apart by addictions. Find a professional to talk to about this situation and hopefully you can find some peace.

Meat & norton, appreciate the helpful input. Agree, repeating the same behavior is the absolute definition of insanity. So, yes trying to talk to an addict, or even my sister has become an excercise in futility.

Since the holidays I've been attending Nar Anon meetings, learned a bit, and that many others are going through this same garbage

With an addict, there is no winning, only survival. The fallout / damage will be great, and it's about to get real ugly.

Presently, they've joined forces to stand up to me, who booked a facilitator to address the problem.

Soon, the last remaining option is legal. Not pretty, yet effective. Ugggh.

Thanks kitties...

Wow, that's a tough situation F_w. I think its next to impossible to get addicts to accept help if they don't first realize that they need help and want the help. I don't know, but maybe severing ties, at least for awhile? I couldn't quite gather from your post if she's directly stolen from you. I hope not but if she has and that has been ongoing then severing ties might be an avenue to consider.

It's heartbreaking to read that she went to vet school. She had a good path forward in life at some point. That's really too bad.

I really hope that she finally finds some clarity at some point.

Yes, she has stolen from me, in my family home. Years ago, by forging a check, and Thanksgiving 2015 she went into my room to steal $$ from my wallet while in the shower.

She is unwilling / unable to be helped, and regrettably will likely soon die.

Here's why, I now decided to speak out.

Perhaps, you've heard how Doctors now profile patients for opiods abuse. Me as a scarred crusty old Mt biker would probably pass scrutiny. Not a heavily tattoo'd 27 yr old with a history of drug abuse.

She has been getting epidural injections for back pain. Doing so has given her access to more powerful pain killers.

Now she's gotten addicted to the shots.

Walk away. Let her die Or stand and deliver. Thought I'd give it a shot.

Thanks. It's the family unit I'm trying to save. My sister, her mother through denial has endangered us all.
IMO only she can save herself.

Been there, done that.
Once you're at the point where you seem to be, with no trust, let alone faith, in your sister and her daughter, that's it.
Anything you do from that point onward is futile, and will only make matters worse, cause you feel you've done something, but the result is not what you want it to be.

In my case it was my mother that got addicted, and it was alcohol mostly as far as I know, but with the same result (it's mostly the same result).
It ended up with that I told her to never contact me again, and that I would take legal action if she ever contacted me again.
That was 16 years ago, back when I was 25.
Doing so leaves you with a lot of time to think if you did right, but ultimately you'll see that there was no real choice.
At that point it's a matter if you will let people go down alone, or you'll go down with them.

I've never heard of anyone getting anything positive from the addict after cutting the strings, but at least you can live a normal life, and put your efforts where they make a difference.
Mostly the addict will try to do whatever possible, to make you see that he or she thinks you're wrong and have conducted yourself poorly.
In my case I got taken out of the will. Just to send a message.

Anyhow, chin up!

Magura :)

The topic and context is very unfortunate but this is as crisp and eloquent as it gets, well done Mr. Magura.

Wow FW sorry to hear that and thanks for sharing. As Norton said we are all here for you. I had a similar addiction story with a sibling in my family. Perhaps I'll share that later. We as a family stuck together to help her fight it. Luckily she prevailed and came out the other end the caring most generous loving person I've ever known. The way I remembered her prior to the addiction. So there is hope in most cases. They just have to be willing to fight the fight and have a solid support system.

Exactly this ^^^
Really appreciate the insight. The collateral damage can no longer be contained. The only defense I have are my actions.

In life all actions are for $ or pussy.

I stand corrected. To me, honesty and integrity stand above all.

Am thankful for all your input, and ability to vent. Now have a better view of the path ahead. Filled with chunk and sketchy sections I'm now better prepared to flow it, rather than have it tear me apart.
Best, F_W
