Well, where do they really come from?
I decided to have a go at finding out.

How about if I claimed, that most of the development, of the chain rings made overseas today, was done by an American company?
......and that this manufacturer survived, that most brands moved production overseas?

A couple of unlikely claims, that both are true.

Today I had the pleasure of a factory tour, guided by their production manager through a few decades (who by the way is the inventor of the shark tooth profile).
The very man who made chain rings for the pro's back in the day, and sometimes still does. On their wall of history, I found parts that were made for many of the pro teams, many of which were easily recognizable.

Today they still make some 20,000 pcs a month, so if you have a chain ring that is engraved "Made in USA", this is most likely the origin.
The quality of craftmanship, and the quality control, is second to none.
They have implemented a very intelligent way of making quality control in each step, and each person knows exactly how to make sure, that hat they did is up to specs.
An example of this, is that they simply wrap each and every chain ring, with a master chain, thus making 100% sure that it's within the tolerance.

Now I know who's gonna make the chain rings for the fleet in the future!

Magura :)

Must go to a cassette with a 98 tooth big cog. Anyone remember the HPV bikes like Hutch made? It would be great for that.

I thought it was one of those rings from a speed record attempt, and hoped to get a wild story about it.
Sadly the reality is a bit boring.
It's for a foldable bike with very small wheels.
