Why do I have to minimize photos so much to get them to posts here? They come out pixilated and blurry once I’ve done that.

+ If you are using the zoom on your cell phone when you take a picture that will make them pixelated to start with. It’s not an optical zoom. More like cropping an image

I had a great ride with the Mrs. and the local postman today.
As those rides usually happen in a very comfortable pace, I picked one of the old rides.

It's incredible how much effort it takes, to operate a bike that is sporting down tube shifters, when you're used to STI.
When I was young, I recall riding single handed in city traffic, shifting to keep perfect cadence. Now I seem to get uncomfortable doing so above 40-45km/h :laughing-rolling:

Probably in part due to so many different bikes with different shifters. Have to pause and recall shifting techniques for the bike you’re on

Yeah, you're probably right.
Normally I just have to remember, if it's a double or a triple ring, the rest is for 98% of my bikes the same (Shimano 9sp, mostly Dura ace).
Here everything is different, and the gear ratios are funny as well.

Good stuff Magura!

On Friday, I went for a ride. But, not a bike ride, a sportfishing boat ride. We fished in 240 feet and caught some of these (red snapper). Nice eyes, huh? That's what decompression will do to ya.

Was happy to find that others have taken over my old trails and keeping up on maintenance. Old school methods. A tree falls that’s too big to wheelie pop you pile branches before and after. Then ride

The particular species that I shared in the pic (Vermillion Rockfish, aka, "Red Snapper") is delicious. The others that live with it are good but not as good. 240' is nothing compared to the old days. I've fished on the bottom in 600' many times and even as much as 900' before. Nowadays, we have depth restrictions from over fishing. It gives some of the threatened species a chance to repopulate. Max depth to fish along Cali is 360' now.

Can’t imagine what one would pull up from 900’ that would look delicious

900', that's no longer a fishing reel, but simply a huge roll of braided rope! :D
Gotta take forever to just roll in the line? Or do you have electrical winches these days?

Some guys used electric reels, but we (my buds) insisted on using "man power". It would take a solid 10-15 minutes of turning the handle to reel up from 900', longer if you had some fish on the line. We would fish anywhere from 6-10 hooks on the deep water adventures. The reels used for up to 600-700 feet were Penn Senator 6/0. For the 900 feet stuff we used Penn Senator 9/0 reels, which could stop a VW Bug that was trying to drive away, lol.

Did two Dawn Patrol rides a few days back and I meant to this morning but I overslept. Darn Full Moon! I made up for it with an Afternoon Delight instead. Did the usual Cherry Canyon Loop from home but I added Glendale Sports Complex (GSC) to it this time. First time I've ridden that stuff in months. Sticky out but we've had a stiff breeze going for a few days now which helps. Temps were in the low 80s.

Blue skies for everyone!!! :D

I have been thinking about converting my hardtail to SS so I broke the Jabber out from hiding and decided to ride Cherry in Ghetto-SS mode (no shifting allowed). Set it at 30X21 and left it that way. Love hurts.

What gearing do you have on your SS?

Optimus runs 32/20. He rides his on some of the more level trail systems in AZ.

The So Cal guys run 32/21. These guys are freaking animals, doing 60 mile rides with 10K' gains sometimes.

It's the only gear ratio that works where I ride. Yes, I suffer climbing but I'm not spinning out to bad on the flats.

Oh, pallleeeeeze?! No need for modesty. We are mountain bikers. Mountain bikers climb big, tall, steep mountains. Extended ascents are where it's at. You're pushing an 18 tooth up big, tall, steep mountains? Perhaps you ought change your user name to Nortzilla.

Really....You just have to find your cadence and stand and deliver. It's not rocket science. 8-)
